Short Break

Short-break fostering for children with disabilities Family Link Fostering

There are many different types of foster caring but it looks like giving disabled children a short break is for you. You would be called a 'Family link' carer.

What's Family Link foster care?

Offering care for a disabled child between 0-18years old for just one or two weekends a month.

The child could have a physical disability, a learning disability or a developmental disorder.  As with all children, they will have different abilities, likes and dislikes and they still have the same basic needs for care and fun.

Some may need help with basic day to day tasks, or communicating, but all will benefit from having different experiences, making friends and becoming more independent.

Could I be Family Link carer?

Yes! There's no 'typical' foster carer and children of all ages and backgrounds need your help.  Family Link Carers come from all walks of life, all religions, background and cultures.

  • You don’t need to have to have a big house.
  • You don’t have to be a parent.
  • There are no age barriers.
  • You may be married, single, in a civil partnership, living in a settled relationship.
  • You can be working or not working.

As long as you’re committed to helping a child to realise their potential, you could be what we are looking for and we would love to hear from you!
