Disability short break fostering provides regular short breaks for a child or young person with a disability.

As a disability short break foster carer, you’ll offer specialist care to children with complex needs that can include physical disabilities, medical conditions or learning difficulties.

Caring for a child with a disability can be extremely rewarding, as you help in giving a child your support to reach their full potential.

Becoming a disability foster carer can seem quite unnerving, but we will provide you with training and guidance to ensure that we can give the child the support they need to thrive.

How long is disability short break fostering?

Disability short break foster carers provide a regular short break often once a month, maybe overnight during the week, for a weekend or in school holidays but generally it’s a flexible arrangement to suit parents, the child and their family.

Can I become a disability short break foster carer?

There are no ‘typical’ disability short breaks foster children. There are children of all ages and disabilities who need your help.

Whether you are single or have a partner and are with or without children, we welcome people from all backgrounds that reflect our communities.

Many of our disability short break carers work full or part time. Whatever time you have to share may be just what a young person needs.

We also have Specialist disability short break carers who may link with more than one child or carry out this service on a full time basis.
