Ashleigh and Tom's Story
We are Ashleigh, 28 years old and Tom, 29. We became approved short term task centred foster carers in April 2020 and we live in Burton Upon Trent. I (Ashleigh) had always wanted to foster carer following a background of working with children and families in foster care and witnessing the impacts that Foster carers can have. This had been a discussion throughout our relationship. When we got married and moved house we decided it was the right time for us to pursue, we wanted to make a real difference in children lives. We made our initial enquiries in September 2019.
Since our first enquiries with Staffordshire we have received excellent advice and training and everyone has been so supportive. We have enjoyed working with a range of professionals as well as meeting other foster carers. There is a wide range of support available to both the child and the carers.
During the pandemic we have cared for and supported the transition of a child to their adoptive home. This was extremely rewarding as we have watched a child grow and develop as well as a new family being made. This has been a highlight in a such unprecedented times.
Our advice to anyone thinking of fostering is, go for it and make those enquiries - it will be the best decision you will make!
